Is history repeating itself? We can’t wait around to find out.
The horrific anti-semitic attack in New York is only the latest in a trend. It’s happening all over America.
Anti-Semitic violence is on the rise:
Hate crimes against Asian-Americans, African-Americans and Muslims are down in New York, the center said, but reports of anti-Semitic hate crimes are driving the overall total up.
Of the 364 hate crimes reported in New York through Nov. 3, the center said, 148 targeted Jewish people. There were 295 hate crimes reported in the city over the comparable period in 2018.
“The surge of attacks on the Jewish community, in large cities like New York and in smaller cities like Pittsburgh and Poway, really has no precedent,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League, referring to deadly shootings at a synagogue in Pittsburgh last year and one near San Diego in April.
“The severity of these incidents seems to be increasing in both their aggressiveness and physicality,” he added.
Donald Trump’s presidency has helped embolden white supremacy throughout America. He has routinely refused to condemn their hatred. At the same time as Trump often refuses to criticize far-right extremist groups, he himself has engaged in harmful rhetoric, claiming in August that any Jewish person who votes for a Democrat shows “either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.” Throughout history, we know how deadly questions of Jewish loyalty can be.
Recently, Rudolph Giuliani used a favorite neo-NAZI conspiracy theory: George Soros. Soros, who is Jewish, has for years been accused of being behind much of what the left does in America. It is a staple of right-wing, white supremacist talking points. And here we have Trump’s right-hand man using the slur:
Giuliani’s comments to Nuzzi stemmed from his conspiracy theory that Soros controlled former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who Giuliani was largely responsible for ousting from her post earlier this year. Giuliani and former Ukrainian prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko started a smear campaign against Yovanovitch because she sought to thwart Giuliani’s efforts to try to find dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden through official channels.
Continuing his rant about Soros’ supposed influence, Giuliani falsely claimed to Nuzzi that the investor “put all four ambassadors there. And he’s employing the FBI agents.” Nuzzi responded that Giuliani, who she noted had been drinking Bloody Marys, sounded crazy.
It’s no coincidence that is happening while Trump is president.
It was Trump supporter and right-wing darling, Ann Coulter, who used the term “fucking Jews” These are the people who feel comfortable with a Trump presidency:
The Jewish campaign treasurer for a Republican candidate in Connecticut is defending a campaign mailer that depicts their Democratic Party opponent in what is being described as the “worst kind of anti-Semitism.”
“The full-color, double-sided mailer shows an altered image of Democrat Matt Lesser, who is Jewish, with large, beady eyes, holding fistfuls of hundred-dollar bills. There’s also a lead tagline on the other side: “Matt Lesser will take everything you worked for.” It was mailed out to homes in and around Middletown — the district where Lesser is trying to win a Senate seat,” WNPR reported Tuesday. “It was sent by his Republican opponent Ed Charamut.”
Suttle. Don’t you think?
